A founding principle for Dr. Frost at North Boise Veterinary Clinic is to provide fear-free and comfortable visits for all of his patients. His understanding of the special bond between pets and their guardians helps him tailor diagnostic and treatment plans to each pet and family. Dr. Frost understands that you and your pet are special and unique, and your pet’s care should also be special and unique. He feels grateful to be able to lead a team of like-minded professionals with the goal of optimal treatment of each patient and family.
joshua frost, dvm
Dr. Frost’s veterinary experience started far before graduating from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. He chose the same path as his father and older brother. From a young age he was surrounded by dogs and cats, working with animals on a daily basis in the family veterinary clinic. This early, constant exposure to animal behavior has grown into his intuitive connection with animals. He practiced in Wisconsin from 1996 to 1999 and then in the Treasure Valley from 2000 to present.
Dr. Frost is Level 3 Certified in Fear Free practice techniques. This advanced training involves the considerate and gentle treatment of animals. Dr. Frost's goals include training pets to enjoy their visit to the vet. Please see below or visit www.fearfreepets.com for more information on this practice style.
The Frost family lives in North Boise and spends their free time enjoying the natural resources of Idaho and the North End.

fear free
As the first Fear Free-certified practice in Idaho, we are committed to reducing fear, anxiety and stress at every visit—starting with the trip to the clinic. We look after our patients’ emotional and physical wellbeing.
Let’s go!
Imagine telling your dog, “Let’s go to the vet!” and seeing her tail wag? How about getting out your cat’s carrier and seeing him come running? We are helping make that a reality, due to a new initiative sweeping veterinary medicine designed to ease the stress, fear, and anxiety so many pets experience while at the veterinarian.
Known as Fear FreeSM, the training and certification program helps veterinarians modify their procedures, handling, and facilities to help pets feel safe and comfortable while receiving the medical care they need.
About Fear Free
Developed by “America’s Veterinarian,” Dr. Marty Becker, the Fear FreeSM initiative aims to “take the ‘pet’ out of ‘petrified’” and get pets back for veterinary visits by promoting considerate approach and gentle control techniques used in calming environments. Utilization of Fear Free methods and protocols leads to reduction or removal of anxiety triggers, which creates an experience that is rewarding and safer for all involved including pets, their owners, and veterinary health care teams. To become certified, veterinarians and veterinary staff are required to complete a comprehensive, 8-part educational course and exam. They also have to take continuing education to remain certified.
